The Rhine Gorge is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It narrows at the alluring Lorelei Rock near St. Goarshausen which soars some 120 metres above the water line.  Many of the railway tunnels along the Rhine had facades added to them in WW2 to try camouflage them as Castles to prevent the Allies from bombing the tunnel entrances and sealing them.
