The magnificent Benedictine Abbey at Monreale offers superb views of Palermo,
the surrounding countryside, and onwards to the sea. Founded by the Norman
King William II, who was also King of England, in the 12th century
the Abbey is still in use. It contains outstanding medieval mosaics which
cover almost the entire interior and depict stories from the Old Testament.
