Palermo is Sicily’s capital. Under the Saracen and Norman rules Palermo
became one of the most important cities in Europe, famous for the wealth of its
court and as a great centre of learning. The Cathedral dates from the 10th
century while the
Norman Palace, a former Royal residence, is now the seat of the regional
government.
